Takano Hitomi is a first-year girl who is too shy to communicate with most people, until she meets Usa, a kind boy who becomes a great friend and a great passion of hers. Usami has something big to get off his chest, but Hitomi is not only popular with him. With classmates, scary girls, kids, brothers, overzealous teachers, and desserts all vying for her time, does he stand a chance? Written and illustrated by Chorisuke Natsumi, Hitomi-chan is Shy With Strangers debuted on Akita Shoten's online platform Manga Cross [ ja] on September 20, 2018. [3] Akita Shoten has collected its chapters into individual tankōbon volumes. The first volume was released on May 20, 2019. [4]

It's a good thing the characters are so likable and the tone lightly humorous because this series is nothing but a string of manga tropes with big boobs fan service. Comic Natalie (in Japanese). Natasha, Inc. September 20, 2018. Archived from the original on October 10, 2021 . Retrieved October 10, 2021. And the latest trope: a transfer student is plopped into the story with the promise of shaking up the main characters' will-they-won't-they status quo. Comic Natalie (in Japanese). Natasha, Inc. November 20, 2019. Archived from the original on October 10, 2021 . Retrieved October 10, 2021. It's just a good old slice of life-comedy in a school setting with each chapter featuring Hitomi interacting with a couple of friends she made that serve as our supporting cast. Only 15 chapters have been out so not a lot of characters have been introduced, but I have hopes that it maintains its charm. I will be updating the review as more developments occur.

Hitomi-chan is Shy With Strangers ( Japanese: 瞳ちゃんは人見知り, Hepburn: Hitomi-chan wa Hito Mishiri ) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Chorisuke Natsumi. It has been serialized on Akita Shoten's online platform Manga Cross since September 2018. During March, Tadano is fretting over what to get Komi for White Day, in return for the chocolate he got on Valentine's Day. He asks Hitomi for advice, who again misinterprets Komi for Katai, asking if it's serious, but she reconsiders the long-haired shadow she saw on Valentine's, realising that it was a girl. Hitomi questions if the chocolate was for friends, or something else, Tadano is unsure, but hasitly assures himself that it couldn't be. Hitomi makes Tadano hold an image of this person in head, and, holding his shoulders, urgently demands if it's love, as Tadano sheepishly admits that he pays extra attention to this "person". Hitomi, grabbing her coat, goes to the department store for a present, as their mother eavedrops on them, only hearing that Tadano got chocolate from a boy, further deepening the misunderstanding [11].

In contrast to her older brother, who is usually seen as "extremely average," Hitomi is an energetic and eccentric girl. Unlike her more self-conscious brother, Hitomi is not as concerned with what others think, doing odd things such as introducing herself via rapping and not being embarrassed by it. Because of her cheery nature, she is well-liked among her peers. This one is one of the least offensive ones, which means it has to distinguish itself in other ways and this volume continues the minimally service-y (well, in comparison) antics and the overly sweet developing romance between our two leads. Usami might be a touch dull, nothing new there, but he and Hitomi still make a cute couple. The most visible influence on Hitomi-chan, outside of current trends, is Azumanga Daioh. Chorisuke Natsumi's art bears a noticeable resemblance to Kiyohiko Azuma's own, particularly in how he draws faces and especially with Yuu. Hitomi is something like a more extreme version of Sakaki, who appears tough due to her height and taciturn nature, but is really just shy and loves cute things. Although this is definitely an established character type by now, and not strictly confined to Azumanga Daioh, certain jokes, like Hitomi's failed attempts at befriending neighborhood cats, seem lifted straight from the older series. The gags are even paced like a four-panel comic, even though the format is that of a typical manga – looser and more freeform. We’re also getting a nicely expanded supporting cast that gives everything a boost. The extremely extra theatre teacher makes a great addition and her zeal for costumes reminds me of how extra the drama club teacher was in my high school to a tee. To keep up the cosplay trope, a teacher introduced last volume is now a recurring character who ensures all the rest of the characters always have season-appropriate costumes available.

Hitomi briefly visits Tadano's school maid cafe, as she had some free time, no sooner had she entered she saw Tadano in a maid outfit. Slightly unnerved, she snaps a picture of him and promptly leaves, phoning their mum, declaring that he really is "like that" (presumably transgender, or otherwise non-standard). She later uploaded that photo to the cloud, so it could exist forever [4].
